The Southern Railway had a longer wheelbase (18’7”) version of the Carfit S and short wagons seen elsewhere on the network. These were actually built with tie bars for strapping down wheels and were designed to carry wheeled vehicles such as cars and trucks. Many of these wagons passed in to British Rail ownership and on withdrawal, many were moved in to the engineer's fleet for use as bogie and plant carrying wagons.
