ZVX Bogie Carrier Wagon Kit Now Available In OO Scale
And now for something a little different (again) .......
Following on from our replacement chassis kit for the Triang / Hornby VIX Ferry Van comes our full kit for the ZVX Bogie Carrier Wagon.
In real life, these wagons were converted from redundant VIX Ferry Vans and could be seen all over the network, moving bogies to and from workshops and depots. Photographs of the real thing can be seen over at Paul Bartlett's excellent website.
This is a full kit with sprung rotating NEM coupling pockets to help negotiate the tightest of corners for these long-wheelbase vehicles.
Included in the kit are two axles of Bachmann 12mm wheels and brass pinpoint axle bearings for smooth running.
Worried about building your first wagon kit or building a chassis square and true? No need, we have printed the chassis from a single piece of PLA so the W-Irons and chassis solebar are already true and in alignment. Separate resin details are included to add those fine details such as springs and hangers, buffers, switches, lifting rings, vacuum cylinder, and handbrake levers / pin-down bars.
Brass / nickel silver rod is also included to make up the coupling pocket springs.
Full instructions are included with step-by-step guides on how to complete this very simple kit.
Some of these conversions were actually conversions of conversions. A small number were converted from curtain-sided engine carriers in the British Leyland wagon pool, and can be identified by their light blue colour scheme shown in the photograph in this newsletter.
To complete, the modeller will require:
- Superglue and plastic adhesive (we recommend Mek-Pak or Plasticweld)
- Paints
- Couplings (NEM or otherwise) – optional sprung NEM pockets are included
- Basic tools – pliers, fine files, filler
- Transfers are available at a small extra cost on request
As with our other kits, the design emphasis has been “uncompromised detail and incredibly easy construction”. We estimate a modeller with average skills can complete this kit to a very high standard within 2 hours (not including painting and paint preparation).
