We are proud to announce the third kit in our VIX Ferry Van series; a full kit to build a highly detailed model of a ZCX Chubb/ Chub wagon.
These wagons were converted for the civil engineer’s fleet from redundant VIX Ferry Vans, other members of the fleet finding use as runner wagons, engine carriers, staff vans, and bogie carrier wagons.
Their intended purpose was to carry ballast and spoil, though the experiment was shortlived as they offered very little in respect of carrying capacity and were also prone to bending under load.

(Spoil load not included)
The kit contains a full chassis with sprung rotating NEM coupling pockets to help negotiate the tightest of curves on these long-wheelbase vehicles. The builder can opt not to use the NEM pockets if they prefer a different system.
Included in the kit are two axles of Bachmann 12mm wheels and brass pinpoint axle bearings for smooth running.

(Spoil load not included)
Worried about building a chassis square and true? No need, we have printed the chassis from a single piece of PLA so the W-Irons and chassis solebar are already true and in alignment. Separate resin details are included to add those fine details such as springs and hangers, buffers, switches, lifting rings, vacuum cylinder and handbrake levers / pin-down bars.
Brass / nickel silver rod is also included to make up handrails and coupling pocket springs, along with a bending jig to make the handrails to the correct length and shape.
Included in the kit:
- PLA One piece chassis – already built square
- PLA Floor
- PLA Sides and Ends (four-sided single piece print)
- PLA NEM Pockets
- PLA Handrail Bending Jig
- Resin Buffers
- Resin Brake Handles
- Resin Brakeshoes
- Resin Brake Cylinder
- Resin Brake Switches
- Resin Springs / Axleboxes
- Resin Lifting Rings
- Resin End Steps
- Brass Pinpoint Tophat Bearings
