We’ve all been there… frustrated at seeing couplings constantly coming detatched. It can be annoying, frustrating, and embarrassing, particularly if it happens at shows and exhibitions.
Did you know that there is an NMRA standard for the distance of the NEM coupling pocket to the rail head? You’re not alone, a few manufacturers do not seem to appreciate this either, which can only add to our frustration.
Our handy little Height Setting Gauge is produced to the NMRA’s NEM 362 specification, allowing modellers to insert an NEM type coupling of their choice in to the gauge to easily set the couplings to the correct height on kitbuilt or scratchbuilt rolling stock, or even tweak mis-matched and misaligned couplings on ready-to-run items. Simply place on the track (OO or EM gauge) and the height gauge sits at the correct pre-determined standard height from the rail head.
Not only that, but modellers who use different types of couplings can insert not one, but two couplings, as the gauge has a NEM pocket at both ends. We ourselves use a mixture of Kadee and magnetic couplings on our rolling stock, so having two couplings on one gauge is a really handy bonus.
Each gauge is supplied as a single piece 3D printed item.
The NEM 362 Coupling Height Setting Gauge can be supplied with or without couplings (choose type from the drop-down menu), but any NEM type “swallowtail” plug and play coupling will fit.
