The NLX newspaper vans were a specialized development of the British Rail GUV (General Utility Van), designed with key modifications for newspaper transport. Unlike standard GUVs, these vans featured gangway ends, allowing staff to move between vehicles during transit, and were fitted with a toilet and an opaque window for added crew convenience on long journeys.

This comprehensive conversion kit is designed to help modelers accurately replicate the unique features of the NLX vans. It includes a range of 3D printed resin parts: both toilet and non-toilet end pieces, an opaque toilet window, Mk1 corridor connections, optional ETH sockets, a highly detailed dynamo, dome vents (with two spares), and a toilet water filler cap. Additionally, laser-cut toilet vents and brass or nickel silver rods are included for the handrails and toilet fillers, along with full instructions and a roof drilling guide to aid in precise assembly.

For an accurate and visually stunning conversion, modelers are encouraged to replace the underscale Lima bogies with Bachmann or Replica Railways BR1 or B5 units, which greatly improve the van’s appearance. The kit is compatible with Lima or Hornby GUV donor coaches, which will need basic modeling tools like superglue, filler, paints and transfers to complete.

While the kit provides most of the components for the conversion, it does not include the bogies, NEM pockets, or couplings shown in the reference photographs. Additionally, the fragile buffers on Lima models are prone to breaking, so modelers can opt for Oleo coach buffers, available as an optional extra, to complete the model. A Pair of NEM Coupling Pockets can also be added to your order if required.

This kit offers an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts to build an authentic model of the NLX newspaper van, with detailed components that make for a satisfying and realistic project.

Very well detailed and useful kit from 12A Models. Really good instructions and easy to add the 3D printed parts. Much neater than anything I could ever hope to build. I’d highly reconmend this kit as converting the GUV to an NLX an easy task. The option to add buffers is also handy as well.
